ADEPSIA: our approach to skincare

ADEPSIA began with a simple conviction: the raw material closest to our skin already exists. We just had to rediscover it.

From troubled skin to an obsession

My name is Adrien. Before Adepsia, I went through a long period of acne, followed by skin that could no longer retain anything: dry, tight and reactive. I kept adding products, sometimes more than five or six in the same routine, without lasting results.

One day, someone told me about beef tallow. I was sceptical. I tried it anyway. And for the first time, I felt that my skin recognised what I was applying to it. I reduced my routine to two or three steps, then almost to just one. Tallow became the base, which I then refined by combining it with other lipid ingredients.

Adepsia grew from that: the desire to turn what had worked for me into a considered product, formulated with care and with a rationale I could stand behind. My experience is my own, and every skin is different, but it was enough to get me started.

“For the first time, my skin seemed to recognise what I was applying to it.”

I am not a chemist. I am passionate about ancestral skincare and chose to work with professionals to do things properly, rather than experimenting on my own. I document the process publicly, step by step.

How we develop the balm

The formula is developed in collaboration with a laboratory in Normandy, France. Its guiding principle fits into one sentence: a lipid profile close to human sebum, so the skin barrier welcomes it without resistance.

The product is still in development. Nothing will be offered for sale before the formula is finalised, its safety assessed by a qualified professional and the product officially notified, as required by cosmetics regulations. We prefer to take the time to do things properly rather than rush a launch.

Our commitments

  • I. A short formula. No water, no emulsifier, no synthetic preservative, no added fragrance. Only ingredients the skin knows how to read.
  • II. A lipid profile close to the skin's. Fatty acids whose structure the skin recognises, rather than an emulsion that stays on the surface.
  • III. Make use of it, rather than waste it. Tallow is a raw material from the cattle industry. We give it value instead of letting it go to waste, in an approach to using every part of the animal.
  • IV. Compliance comes first. Safety assessed and product notified before any sale. No shortcuts on this point.
  • V. Transparency. Our balm contains tallow and beeswax, so it is not vegan. It is a cosmetic, not a medicine. We make that clear.
Our conviction

Why such a concise formula

Modern cosmetics keep adding ingredients. European regulations, meanwhile, have continued removing them. The list of substances prohibited in cosmetics now contains more than 1 370 entries, including all substances classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction, and it grows with each reassessment.

Our response is not fear, but restraint. Fewer ingredients, chosen for their closeness to the skin. A formula you can read in full and understand.
